The Realism of Shoujo Manga in the Real World

The title above is the one I used to round off my final project. I wrote about finishing my project in the last post but I never did get round to explaining what I actually did my research on. Silly me! I was just feeling a little bit emotional; I only have less than two weeks to go before I return to Sydney. Looking forward to catching up with my family and friends as well as getting my share of yum cha, Vietnamese beef ball noodles, and some good ol’ mum’s cooking. Yum!

Anyway, my project looked into shoujo manga and how it influenced readers and the real world. I thought up this particular topic before I left Sydney (back then I was a crazy manga fan) and I was still interested in finding out the answers some eight months later. A lot of manga later (and I did read a truckload!), I lost a little bit of my original enthusiasm for manga (you try keeping it after being assaulted by so much of them!) but at least my research hypotheses were answered.

In the end, the project wasn’t hard to do but it did require some tedious research. I’m fairly happy with how it turned out though I wish I had a higher word limit. Five thousand words is not enough; it was difficult to set the foundation of the project and then still have enough words to include your methodology. Anyway, I hope I get a good mark (this is directed at Keiko-sensei if she is reading this!).
