Free as a bird!
I finished my UTS major assignment, woo hoo! There goes 7,000 words and numerous hours of effort put into it but at least now I am free, free, free! It feels great to have such a weight off my mind; now I can finally enjoy my last couple weeks here without any worries. After I emailed it in, Kylie and I went out and celebrated it up; we went out and had an awesome dinner with friends after an afternoon of shopping and fun. Oddly enough, we ended up at the Italian restaurant that Kylie and I ate at during our first couple of days in Gifu after we arrived early last year. I felt the circle was complete; our experiences started there and so there it ends, surrounded by great friends and fantastic food. It made me pretty nostalgic thinking that some of the things I’m doing will most likely be the last time I will get to do them.
Oh, I’m getting all teary-eyed but that happens whenever I think about my inevitable departure. Logically I know that my time here is up; I’ve been here long enough, I’ve finished all my assignments, I’ m running out of funds and space does need to be made for the next group of ICSers to enjoy the treasures of Gifu and Japan. However that doesn’t stop me from thinking ‘what if’ – but I think that is just me trying to run away from reality a little while longer. I suppose it is high time I got my bum back to Sydney, start thinking about graduation and trying to break in the job market even though it is looking pretty dismal right now. I’ve got to re-shoulder my responsibilities again and face life. Oh man, it sounds so hard and so…real.

Congratulations with the completion of your ICS! Sounds like you’ve had quite an experience for the past 10 or so months in Japan. Hopefully Gifu will treat us next batch just as well. If you don’t mind, I will probably try to send you an e-mail with a few queries over the next week, now that you are relatively free and all. Hope you enjoy the rest of your time there.
